WSEPAC Membership

General membership is open to any resident of Waltham or person affiliated with the Waltham Public Schools who has attended at least one meeting of the Waltham Special Education Parent Advisory Council during the past 12 months. Voting membership is required to vote in annual officer elections and other business that comes before any WSEPAC meeting. Subcommittees are established to encourage parents to address specific concerns they've identified as priorities. This not only could increase efficiency, but could also help individual parents to focus on areas of greatest interest to them.

Subcommittees

We have formed three subcommittees based on the data collected from the surveys and from member input are working on adding more. Keep checking this page for new information and if you are interested in joining one of the subcommittees, please contact us.

Community Outreach

Chair: Donna Donovan

The WSEPAC is a motivated group of teachers, parents, and administrators, ready to serve but we need assistance in reaching other members of our community. The success of our group depends on participation of people who represent the many diverse populations living in the district. Please share any resources you know of that would help us with our outreach efforts.

Specific Needs Support Groups

Chair: Susan Sutherland

Some of our children have unique needs that require specific supports and services. The Specific Needs Subcommittee was formed to address these needs in more depth by holding meetings and events throughout the year.
The group holds a monthly social play group for children with special needs and their siblings, facilitated by parents. Members may also post discussion items for topics not typically covered in the academic setting by joining our WSEPAC yahoo or Facebook group to network with others and share resources and best practices.

Fundraising

Chair: Rose Martin

Families and members of the community enjoyed an evening at our first fundraiser, a Friendly's Funraiser held in February 2009. It was a crowd pleaser and we are planning to hold this event annually. We have also held Avon and Macy's fundraisers and the money received, goes towards purchasing the teacher's Wish List items presented and the Year End Reception. We are always looking for new ideas so and if you have one, would like to participate on this subcommittee, or you're interested in volunteering please contact us!

Year End Reception

Co-Chairs: Amy DiMatteo, Susan Sutherland

This event is held annually in May. Families, educators and members from the community are invited to gather together and learn more about the WSEPAC and to recognize those who have demonstrated exemplary service and dedication in their effort to include children with special needs in the school and community settings. The First Annual WESPAC Annual Year End Reception was held on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Arthur J. Clark Government Center Auditorium. The Waltham PDD program was recognized in 2009, on their 10 year anniversary of providing education services to over 42 students in the Waltham School District and presented with the First Annual Kelly Beaumont Mazzarini Award. This is also the meeting where new officers and voted in and announced when their terms end.
